The use of makeshift bearing installation tools and methods can result in several expensive unintended consequences. At its worst, the misapplication of force can result in significant damage to both the bearing and the housing. At best, parts are subjected to unnecessary stresses that could potentially shorten their serviceable life requiring more frequent maintenance cycles and increased potential for unexpected failure. Hydraulic tools for mounting and dismounting 

SKF has pioneered the use of hydraulic techniques, which have helped to simplify bearing arrangements and facilitate correct and easy mounting. SKF has also developed a comprehensive range of tools and equipment to put these hydraulic techniques into effect. 

The SKF hydraulic techniques are often the preferred method for dismounting larger bearings as well as other components. These techniques, which employ hydraulic pumps, nuts and oil injectors, allow the application of substantial forces to dismount bearings or other components. 

Mechanical tools for mounting and dismounting 
Small and medium size bearings are generally cold mounted. Traditional methods can cause forces to be transmitted through the rolling elements, resulting in damage to the raceways. SKF’s mechanical mounting tools help prevent bearing damage during cold mounting. 

Choosing the right puller for the dismounting job is critical. The puller type, and its maximum withdrawal capacity are crucial for completing any dismounting job safely and easily. SKF offers a complete range of easy-to-use mechanical, hydraulic and hydraulically-assisted bearing pullers for use in many bearing applications.

Bearing heaters 

The comprehensive SKF heater range can be used for mounting or dismounting by efficiently heating bearings and work pieces, both large and small.
